Bridging Musical Worlds 2025

On Sunday January 19th 2025 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, we present our annual event celebrating the work and life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King – featuring Charlotte Strings Collective (CSC), University of North Carolina Charlotte Music Department (UNCC), Charlotte Folk Society (CFS), Tosco Music (TM) and the ‘A Sign Of The Times’ Band(ASOTT).
Note: This event is always held the Sunday before the Dr. King Holiday

Diggin' Black History

A 9-week evening program starting Monday, January 27th thru March 18th 2025 from 7 PM to 8:15 PM on the history of Black folks – from our African origins to modern-day. Presented in-person and via Zoom once a week by local historians, you will learn facts about Black folks that (most likely) were not taught in secondary schools or universities.

Kwanzaa

‘A Sign Of The Times’ collaborates with Kwanzaa Charlotte to celebrate and observe the seven principles of Kwanzaa – the Nguzo Saba (in-GOO-Zoh-SAH-bah).

This concert will be held in March 2025 featuring the ‘A Sign Of The Times’ Big Band with African dancersWe also award music and dance scholarships for deserving high school graduates and first year college students. Location: TBD

The Music of African People

This annual “online” program explores the history of Black folks through music, dance, and the rhythms of the African Diaspora. Starting Sundays, January 3rd, 2024, from 4 to 5:30 PM via Zoom. ♫

Our scholarships are funded in part by the Arts and Science Council and the Foundation for the Carolinas.

Annual Black History Production

Each year for the past 22 years, we celebrate the history of Africans and their descendants with African dance, African drumming, and the ‘A Sign of the Times’ Big Band and Strings.

We also award the following scholarships to deserving high school graduates and first-year college students during this concert:

A. The Leroy A. Paige Music $500 Scholarship
B. The John Holloway Music $500 Scholarship
C. The DeLois Daniel Tupponce Dance $500 Scholarship 
D. The Hubert Jefferson Multi-Discipline (Acting, Music & Dance) $500 Scholarship
